C&R Consulting - Bob Campbell Memorial Charters Towers to Townsville
Another successful race and a very happy Mark O’Dempsey after taking out this years event. Not only did Mark take out the overall but he also managed to win two out of the three sprint primes. Kyle Marwood took out the fastest time with an average speed of 42.5kph, just pipping local sensation Josh Hislop who finished half a wheel behind. Big thanks to C&R Consulting for once again supporting one of the biggest one day cycle races in North Queensland. Also to the many helpers and volunteers that made this event possible. Without them, none of this spectacular event would be possible. Look out for a race report and pictures to follow. If anyone has any photos they would like included, please contact me on 0417 634751.

Yungaburra Photo's Photo's are available for sale from the Tour de Tablelands............ http://orders.worldimagephotography.com.au/index.php/client/show_client has all the pictures from all the races. There's quite a few so it's gonna take some searching. Pricing and sizes are listed on the website.
The results are up from Sunday's 40k group handi-cap from Hi-Range. Quite a good turn out for a chilly Sunday Morning. Although most riders wouldn't say it was cold but sitting on the side lines with a wind blowing made things a little cooler than it would of been pounding the pedals for an hour. Good to see the newer riders have a win with Ross Dunn taking a convincing win over Marcus O'Dempsey. NQ Elite rider Bevan Mason came in strong to finish third just in front of Off & On Bikes Shane Marcus who also got fastest time. Check out http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevent.jsp?id=552266 for all the results.

2010 Townsville to Towers Race Report

Townsville to Charters Towers Race Report
Will Cullen soloed to a solid victory in the Townsville to Charters Towers Road Race in spectacular fashion.Setting off in the 26 minute bunch with the next group starting a further 6 minutes behind. The decisive move came on the Mingela Range where he powered up the climb and never looked back. Fabian Cancellara would be proud of the huge solo effort from almost 50k out.
The weather looked ominous at first with a few grey clouds lingering. But it proved to be a perfect day for the 48 competitors racing the 120.85 klm event. The start was a little delayed due to technical difficulties but once the first group rolled out, it was all go and everything went like clock work.
The first groups went off full of enthusiasm but that soon came crashing down when they encountered a block head wind heading into Woodstock. The first feed zone was cluttered with cars and spectators. The helpers were eagerly waiting for “their rider” to emerge so they could pass off the essential food and drink. Some went quite smooth while others struggled with passing over a full water bottle at over 30kph. By the next feed zone everyone was a little more experienced and things went a bit smoother, however there was still a few stories of dropped feed bags and bottles.
The big question for the day was would the scratch markers finally get their day after several years of missing out. It looked good on paper with a tough but fair handi-cap of 47 minutes and a very strong group which included eventual fastest time and third overall, Bevan Mason, along with Josh Hislop, Joel Lewis, Matt Hodges, Andrei Tonnello and Aaron Ross. They managed to pick up a few groups in front of them but the Range proved to be their undoing. The group splintered and it was only Mason, Hislop, Tonnello and chopping block rider Mark Jamieson that managed to hang on to the end.
The majority of the field finished fairly close together which was a good indication of very good handi-capping. After which it was a matter of sitting back and relaxing, enjoy the ham, salad roll and chocolate bar and watching the last of the shattered riders come over the line. Apologies to the very last few riders that rolled over the line after the timing system was shut down. Unfortunately we were unable to record a time for you but you can be satisfied with knowing that you finished one of the hardest races on the Queensland Cycling calendar.
For all the results including fastest time, average speeds and a whole bunch of other information just log onto http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=1454436. Thanks very much to all the helpers, volunteers and officials. Special mention to Leanne Tucker for the well-earned ham, salad rolls and also to Amy Cundy and Larrisa Malpas for some brilliant photo’s.
If you enjoyed that race, keep the 8th of August free as we will be doing the return run with the C&R Consulting, Goldfields to Paradise Road Race. With a downhill run and a fairly good chance of a tailwind, it’ll be one hell of a race. Plus the added incentive of a $4000 prize purse should get more than a few people interested.
